Each year I visit Pele’s ‘home’ on the Big Island of Hawaii at least twice, once in the middle of the year and once at the beginning of the year. It is a time I always look forward to as I feel the welcoming energy of Pele when I arrive and miraculous happenings seem to always occur throughout my entire stay.

Volcanoes National Park is located in Hilo on the Big Island and Halemaumau Crater is Pele’s home, making it a sacred place for the Hawaiian people as well. If you go there, you will see many offerings left there for her by others who have come to honor her.

I always bring an offering to the crater in the morning following my arrival.  This particular crater is a high traffic spot but I am always blessed in that when I arrive there is no one there, or if there is they leave right away, and it stays that way until I leave, sometimes over an hour later. The minute I decide to leave, the tour busses pull up.

The last visit, I took some flowers up for her, placed them on a rock near the crater and then stood to the left of the rock and communicated with Pele and meditated for quite some time. When I was finished she guided me to take a picture and so I stepped back to take a few shots of the area.

It wasn’t until I got home and downloaded the pictures onto the computer that I realized her gift to me.  I include one of the pictures here. If you view the large version of the photo, you will see to the left some red lava-looking energy right where I was standing. In all the photos, this energy showed up in various places near the rock.

I felt so full of gratitude as I knew that this was her way of acknowledging my visit and it’s so neat to have a “picture” of her!
